Living among gleaming skyscrapers is part of Singapore's charms. Although life is hectic, it's always nice to return home and recharge your energy surrounded by lush greenery. This front yard design at the client's landed house features an explosion of colors. The clients at Burgundy Drive wanted something simple and low-maintenance to enhance the entrance of their home, and they were very pleased with the design that the client even made it his Whatsapp profile photo!
This front yard project is my own individual project. The front yards area was 5 meters by 3 meters. Before planting the team and I had to work on soil restoration. The owners had previously planted several plants that did not do well and died as a result of sandy soil that did not hold onto water or any nutrients necessary for plant growth. We removed the top layer of the sandy
soil and replaced it with compost, adding nutrients into the soil and to retain and absorb water and nutrients better. We then proceeded to plant the plants according to the client's desired design and cover the bare areas with carpet grass.
The Bayshore balcony design exudes modernity, practicality, and sustainability. The concept for this design uses timber planters and low-maintenance plants that create a soothing effect for the space. The balcony garden is a peaceful sanctuary for the homeowners to heal their mind and soul amidst the bustling city. Integrating greenery within a semi-outdoor space allows the homeowners to connect to nature in a seamless way, creating an opportunity for biodiversity while promoting an ecosystem for flora and fauna at a different level. Using plants and green products in the market, we can create a garden of any shape, theme, and style on your balcony. As for this project, I also do the monthly maintenance of the plants which includes fertilizing, pruning and trimming
Bayshore balcony
This balcony garden is my own independent project. The balcony comprises of four wooden planter boxes. Two of the middle planter boxes are filled with mint and basil, the homeowners love using them for their cooking and making mint tea. The two outer planters are filled with lush, colorful semi-shade plants. The balcony also comprises smaller designer pots with a variety of plant species with bright and vibrant colors such as Coleus, Variegated Monsteras, Aglaonema and many more.

Planting design
This design showcases a rocky design and an explosion of colors comprising of flowering plants that Ngee Ann Poly requested, such as Portulaca grandiflora and Belamcanda chinensis and the grassy shrub Pennisetum setaceum that flows in the breeze giving a sense of tranquility to the space. The white pebbles create the contrast to the plants, reflecting light making the entrance of the Academy brighter and providing emphasis on the colorful flowers. Several other designs with different themes were made for the officers to choose from such as a tropical theme and a ecological butterfly attracting theme.
The CET Academy in Ngee Ann Polytechnic was designed by me with the support and supervision of my superiors under my internship company, Toh Kim Bock Contractor Pte Ltd. Landscape maintenance, work, implementation and more are all done by Toh Kim Bock Contractor Pte Ltd.
